Established in 2000, The Akshaya Patra Foundation is one of the pioneer mid-day meal NGOs in India. It is an implementing partner of the Government of India’s Mid-Day Meal Scheme. Headquartered in Bengaluru, Akshaya Patra is in its 19th year of providing freshly cooked, nutritious, and hygienic mid-day meals to children of Government schools and Government-aided schools.
Since inception, the Foundation has strategically expanded its reach from feeding just 1,500 children in 5 Government schools to feeding millions today. The current expanse of the Foundation’s work benefits: 18,00,907 children in 19,039 Government schools and Government-aided schools across 52 locations of 12 states and 2 Union Territories of India. Along with harnessing technology in its large mechanised kitchens, Akshaya Patra also has its Food Safety and Quality Control Laboratories to assess quality and enhance nutrition of meals on a regular basis..
Alongside from the core cause of providing the much-needed healthy school meals to children, Akshaya Patra is also involved in providing relief services in the hour of need. Currently, The Foundation has provided over 8-crore cumulative meals to the poor and marginalised across India under its COVID-19 Food Relief Service.
